Students and volunteers at The Literacy Project - Amherst
Each year, students in Eileen Barry's class at The Literacy Project - Amherst read Sandra Cisneros's classic, "The House on Mango Street." This year, the students wrote to her as well, sharing their reactions to her work and copies of their own poetry. And she wrote back! Here's what she said:
Dear Students of The Literacy Project,
How moved I am to read your letters and poetry. I am deeply blessed and lucky to have readers like Soon, Ngawang, Abdou, David, Drew, Sangye, Yuy, Tayvon, Bose, Gnobo, Tony, Carmina, Tsultrim, Dekyi, Eileen. Your names are a poem I sing tonight to bring me peace and light. All my gratitude to you and your teacher.
