The Literacy Project is seeking applications for 2 open positions at our Ware site: an HSE instructor (20 hours per week) and an Education and Career Advisor (18 hours). Applicants may apply for both positions for a combined 38 hours per week.
Position Opening: High School Equivalency Instructor – Ware Site

The Literacy Project is seeking an Instructor for an Evening High School Equivalency (HSE) class (grade level equivalent 9-11) and a pre-HSE class (grade level equivalent 5-8), to be offered remotely. This position is funded for 2o hours/week at $27/hour, plus benefits, and lasts for the duration of the 2022-23 school year. This position may be combined with the Education and Career Advisor - Ware Site position, for a total of 38 hours/week.
The Instructor is responsible for planning and teaching 2 online classes to adults and out-of-school youth, integrating student goals, career awareness and computer literacy. The HSE class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5:30-7:30 PM. The Pre-HSE class meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 5:30-7:30 PM. The Instructor will prepare students for all aspects of the high school equivalency test (the HiSET and the GED), including math, reading, writing, science and social studies. Additional responsibilities include recordkeeping, student assessment, and collaboration with the Advisor to ensure student success. The Instructor participates in The Literacy Project’s monthly staff meetings, weekly case management meetings, and staff development opportunities. The position includes evening hours (for teaching) and some daytime hours for staff meetings and teacher collaboration.
Desired qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching HSE level curriculum to under-educated adults and youth, and newcomer and immigrant populations, in an online format, using a student-centered approach. Experience teaching math at the high school level is strongly preferred. Experience with evidence-based instruction, lesson planning, curriculum development, online teaching, student assessment, and computer literacy is strongly desired. Applicants should have excellent communication and team work skills, be proficient in an online learning environment, and have a strong commitment to the mission of The Literacy Project.

The Literacy Project is seeking an Education and Career Advisor for our Ware site. This position is funded for 18 hours/week at $27/hour, plus benefits, and lasts for the duration of the 2022-23 school year. The position may be combined with a 20-hour Instructor position, for a total of 38 hours per week.
The Advisor is responsible for conducting student outreach in the greater Ware community, performing intakes with new students, completing initial student assessments, helping students set and meet education and career goals, identifying resources for student support, helping students access resources, and performing student follow up tasks. The Advisor participates in The Literacy Project’s monthly staff meetings, weekly case management meetings, and staff development opportunities. The position is responsible for record keeping and data entry to track student success.
Desired qualifications include demonstrated knowledge of and experience with adult basic education; experience working with under-educated adults and youth as well as newcomer and immigrant populations; experience with academic and career advising with diverse populations; knowledge of counseling skills, including Motivational Interviewing and Appreciative Advising; experience with administering student assessments; knowledge of the Ware community.
