Each year, NEPR's Arts and Humanities Awards recognizes positive contributions to the arts and humanities in western New England

The Literacy Project and 3 other award recipients will be celebrated on May 8, 2018, at the Log Cabin in Holyoke.  Visit NEPR online for tickets and more information.

The Literacy Project is honored to be recognized with this prestigious award. We are proud of our work bringing a nontraditional audience to the arts and humanities.

Through our classes, cultural field trips, poetry workshops, and memoir readings, The Literacy Project connects our adult literacy students to the vibrant arts and literary community of the Pioneer Valley.

For the past four years, TLP has invited guest writers to lead poetry and memoir workshops for our students, culminating in published collections of student writings and public readings.  Through the drafting and editing process, students grow in confidence and courage as they share their work first with their peers and then with a wider audience.

It is sheer beauty to witness our students take pride in their writing and present their work with poise and confidence!

The extraordinary work that The Literacy Project does not only provides much needed basic skills but also develops a love of story and a sense of voice in people whose words and perspectives are generally not valued in this society.
