Volunteer Positions with The Literacy Project
Here are the range of positions that we currently have available.
If you would like to do something not listed here, give us a call to talk about it.

1. Classroom teaching assistants and tutors work alongside staff instructors to provide one-on-one and small group instruction to our learners. This is a once-a-week commitment for a minimum of 6 months. Training is provided.

2. Peer tutors are current or former Literacy Project students - or students at another adult education program - who work with staff instructors in the classroom.

3. Administrative volunteers work in our offices and classrooms, providing assistance to staff with such things as filing, typing, data entry, and classroom maintenance. There is no minimum commitment for this position, and we can design a position based on your interests and skills.

4. Technical Support volunteers assist the technology coordinator with such things as computer maintenance and repair, building and maintaining our website, computer instruction, etc. Positions are flexible and can be designed to fit your skills and interests.

5. Special Projects volunteers work fairly independently, on projects designed collaboratively with Literacy Project staff. Examples include offering health education classes to our students, organizing a fundraiser, organizing a field trip, taking photographs for promotional purposes, interviewing and writing a profile of a Literacy Project volunteer for our web site, etc. These projects can be designed based on your skills and interests and our needs. We can accommodate volunteers who are doing one semester service learning projects.
