Lewis and Clark

The president was Thomas Jefferson. He recommended Lewis to explore the Western part of the United States. Lewis wrote a letter to Clark to ask him to explore with him.

The year was spring 1804. They were exploring different territories in the western part of the United States. They explored the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. They crossed the Continental Divide. They were the first explorers to reach the Pacific Ocean by land.

Lewis's great qualities were that he was a real good frontiersman. A frontiersman is a person who explores and is a real great hiker and enjoys being out in the woods. He could cut wood with an ax, make a great campfire, and make shelter to rest at night. Lewis was 28 years old. Lewis also had nasty qualities he was a heavy drinker and had manic depression.

He bought supplies so he could survive out in the wilderness. The things that he bought were furs, whiskey, tools, food, and guns. He bought different medications from a doctor, which included laxatives and different medicines.

Clark was born in Virginia he was brave, strong, and well spoken. He had a steady temperament.

Lewis and Clark discovered on their journey different kinds of animals, which they recorded in their journal. Coyotes, prairie dogs, buffalo deer, elk, antelope, and birds. They also recorded different kinds of weather, which included rainstorms, nice weather, and snowstorms.

They meet different kinds of tribes on their journey they include the Lakota Tribe, Omaha Tribe. The Lakota Tribe wasn't friendly at all because they tortured the Omaha Tribe by hanging and scalping them.

Lewis and Clark explored the Missouri River. They discovered large stone buildings and the Great Falls of Missouri. They also discovered the Columbia River in the state of Oregon. They crossed the river by canoe. They were the first white men to reach their homeland, which was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Lewis and Clark brought back journals from their expedition. They gave President Thomas Jefferson the journals of all of their different things they saw on the expedition. President Jefferson gave Lewis and Clark 1,600 acres of public land.
