Spectacles

Spectacles were invented by knowledgeable people who knew about different kinds of lenses for eyeglasses. Spectacles are corrective lenses for nearsighted and farsighted individuals who need to improve their vision. Spectacles are really a necessary item because a lot of people are required to wear them for correcting bad eyesight.

The oldest known lenses were discovered in Ancient Nineveh, which is in the Middle East. They were made of polished rock crystal an inch and a half in diameter. The Chinese believed that spectacles had magical powers with colored glass lenses, but Chinese lenses were not prescription.

Spectacles were invented along time ago. In the year 1280 spectacles first appeared in Florence Italy. The inventor was Alessandro Spina. Around 1284 Salvino D Armate, another Italian, invented the first wearable eyeglasses. In 1571-1630 Johannes Kepler discovered the functions of the cornea, pupil, and retina.

Some spectacles are called bifocals. The inventor of bifocals was Benjamin Franklin. He discovered bifocals in 1784. Bifocals are lenses that correct nearsightedness and farsightedness combined all in one lens.

George Airy invented spectacles to correct astigmatism. Astigmatism is a condition in which the cornea of the eye is shaped like a football. People with astigmatism have blurry vision.

Modern spectacles come in a lot of different shapes and sizes. People like to change their spectacles every couple of years because of the new styles. Changing spectacles occasionally is great if you can afford them. The main thing is liking your new frames and the lenses when you purchase them.
