The Next Step Up Program at Greenfield Community College
Did you finish your GED?
Did you complete high school in your native country and now want tot go to college?
Are you nervous about going to college?
Do you want to try to go to college?
Do you want help improving your skills?
Next Step Up helps students
who have their G.E.D. and want to enter college successfully. It is structured so that students belong to
a group at Greenfield Community College and take College Success (HUD 114)
together. The program allows students
to take up to four courses for free in their first semester. They are mandated to take College Success,
but the other three classes will be dependent on how they test on the College’s
placement exam.
1st semester- students take College Success, and developmental classes they might
need. If they place out of
developmental classes, then they will be placed in a class already running and
the grant will pay for it. They will
have Lindy Whiton as an advisor. This semester is free to the student.
2nd semester- students will continue to take the classes that are appropriate for
them. They will continue to have Lindy
Whiton as an advisor. They will be
invited to attend Next Step Up events.
The grant does not pay for this semester, but students will have been
brought through the financial aid process.
3rd semester- students will be transitioned to a faculty advisor in the field they
are interested in studying. They will
be invited to attend Next Step Up events.
For more
information, see the transitions counselor at your Literacy Project site. To
enroll in the program or learn more about the grant, please call Lindy Whiton
at 775-1828 or ask at Student Services.
This is a grant of the Massachusetts Department of
Education; ACLS Division.
Next semester of classes will begin September 5th 2006
