Learn all you can about the field you are interested in.

Do you need to go to college to become what you would like to become? Do you know what your college major will be? Are you going for an associate’s degree or a certificate? Will you transfer to a four-year college after you graduate from a two-year college?

Apply

Look for phone numbers of the college admissions office. Call them and request an application be sent to you. Fill out the application and mail or take it to the Admissions office.

Think abut your finances

Fill out the Financial Aide application through the college you want to attend.

Fill out the FAFSA – at www.fafsa.ed.gov, or fill it out and mail it in. If you do the application online, it is processed faster.

Do you qualify for work-study? Find a person or a department on campus to employ you when you start classes. Do you need an off campus job? Make a resume, network and fill out employment applications. You can still go to college… Many colleges have night classes!

Assessment

Schedule a placement exam and go take it. It may be a good idea to brush-up on Math and/or English before you take the test. Search “Accuplacer practice test” using a search engine such as google.com or ask.com for practice tests. If you think you want to retake the test, there is a 10$ retesting fee.

Follow-up

Meet with an academic and financial aide counselor to review any questions you may have. Visit the career resource center, student life, your academic dean and the Youth Transitions Counselor at your learning Center.
