Cover Letters
Don't get weeded
out! Cover letters are letters that go with a resume or a job application
to introduce yourself to a prospective employer. Just like a good
advertisement will capture the audiences’ attention, a cover letter can act as
a powerful marketing tool and capture the attention of a potential
employer. There are several types of cover letters.
Here are five common types
of cover letters.
1)
Letters to Employers
2)
Letters to Search Firms
3)
Advertising Response letters.
4)
Networking Letters.
5)
Resume Letters.
Though most of you will
probably use the first and third types, the following examples will more than
likely be relevant to you at some point in your future. Having a general
idea of what employers expect will help you formulate your own method for
creating a cover letter.
Keep this in mind.
When employers receive several responses to a help wanted advertisement, they
try to “weed out” as many as they can. Employers do not have the time to
interview everyone. Therefore, only the best applicants remain after any
initial screening takes place. It is in your best interest to supply them
with a flawless representation of you.
