The Literacy Project is seeking a GED instructor at our Orange site. The position is part time (11 hours per week) and temporary (through June 30, 2008) with the possible extension of the position pending continued funding. The weekly salary is $201.41. Starting date is ASAP (ideally on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the latest).
Position responsibilities include teaching adult learners ages 16 and older in GED classes two mornings a week (on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 12:30), class preparation, student assessment, student counseling, and miscellaneous meetings and record-keeping.
Qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching GED level curriculum utilizing a student-centered and preferably, whole language approach; excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively; experience with diverse groups of people; and basic computer literacy.
The Literacy Project (TLP) is a non-profit, community-based organization offering adult basic education and GED preparation services at our classroom sites in Amherst, Greenfield, Northampton, Orange and Ware. The agency incorporates community development, civic participation, computer technology, and arts/culture in its teaching. TLP’s philosophy is based in an empowerment model that is learner-centered and participatory.
