Lesson 4: The Writing Process IntroductionThis lesson focuses on the three steps in the writing process:
prewriting or brainstorming, writing, and revising. You will also learn about
purpose and audience. It’s a good idea to understand why you are writing and

Understand writing as a multi-stage process. ·
Prewrite by generating and grouping ideas. ·
Write a first draft, revise, and then correct (edit). Learning Activities Video: Ž
Watch Program 4 where writers and teachers talk about the writing
process. As you watch, look for the steps the writers take as they write. Workbook: Ž Read pages 33-36
and complete the “Sneak Preview.” Ž Read page 37.
Then, complete and correct the exercises on pages 38-49 about the writing
process: prewriting, writing a draft, revising, editing, and publishing. Ž Complete and
correct “GED Practice” on pages 50-52. This section is similar to the GED
Writing Test. Share your results with
