Lesson 3:  Getting Ideas on Paper

Introduction

The focus of this lesson is to get ideas out of your head and onto paper.  Freewriting and journal writing are techniques professional workers use to find and explore ideas.  You can use these methods when writing too.  You can also use your personal observations and experiences when writing the essay.

Objectives

When you complete this lesson you will:

  • Learn techniques to generate writing more easily.
  • Explore forms of personal writing—journals, letters, narratives.
  • Understand the role of personal writing on the GED.
