Number sense is a feeling for numbers that people
use to solve problems in their daily lives. This lesson covers some aspects
of number sense, including the purpose of numbers, the four operations
(addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), math vocabulary, and
estimation. Objectives

Weigh situations and make decisions. Ž
Recognize when to use estimation and when to solve for an exact

As you watch, think about how you would make decisions in the same
kinds of situations. Workbook:

Read pages 23-26 and complete the “Sneak Preview.” Ž
Read page 27. Then complete and correct the exercises on pages 28-37
about approaches to learning math, understanding the number system, seeing
number relationships and patterns, and estimating. Ž
Complete and correct the “GED Practice” on pages 38-40. This section
is similar to the GED Math Test. Internet: Ž

Under Learning Modules,
open “Unit 1: Budgeting and Financial Planning” and complete Activities 1-5.
