Lesson 24:  Earth and Space Science

 

Introduction

 

Earth and Space science will require you to analyze familiar matter that you may not have thought about in much detail (such as the weather, the planet, or our galaxies).  Learning the concepts of earth and space science will help you on the GED test as well as enrich your understanding of everyday life. 

 

Objectives

 

When you complete this lesson you will:

·        Learn about the Earth and its development.

·        Understand how Earth changes and how the oceans and atmosphere interact.

·        Explore human impact on the environment.

 

Learning Activities

 

1.       Video: 

·        Watch Program 24 for an overview of Earth and Space Science. 

·        As you watch, look for changes that occur in the land, air, and oceans. 

 

2.      Workbook: 

 

·        Develop and practice your science skills on pages 186 – 197 of the GED Connection Science/Social Studies workbook. 

·        Complete the GED Practice exercises on pages 198 - 200 in the GED Connection Science/Social Studies workbook.  Correct the exercises using the answer key in the back of the book beginning on page 266.

 

3.       Internet:

    • Log on to your Home Space at http://litlink.ket.org and follow the links to GED Connection, Social Studies.
      • Under Internet Activities, open “24: Earth and Space Science” and complete the following:
        1. Read “About This Activity.”
        2. Read “Key Ideas.”
        3. Complete all parts of the “Activity.” (NOTE: Be sure to click on “Save” after you type in each box.)
        4. Complete the “Quiz” and check your answers.
        5. Complete the “Follow Up” activities as needed.
