 Lesson 21:  Geography

 

Introduction

 

This lesson focuses on geography, which accounts for 15% of the questions on the GED social studies test.  Geography is an integrative science concerned with the nature of the earth (physical geography) and human habitation of the earth (cultural geography). 

 

Objectives

 

When you complete this lesson you will:

·        Understand how places define our world.

·        Investigate how the environment affects humans.

·        Evaluate the effects of human development on the environment.

 

Learning Activities

 

1.       Video: 

·        Watch Program 21 for an overview of geography. 

·        Think about how knowledge of geography can be used to solve real-world problems. 

 

2.      Workbook: 

 

  • Complete the exercises in the GED Connection Science/Social Studies workbook on pages 114 - 125.  Evaluate your answers using the answer key starting on page 259.   Share your results with your teacher. 
  • Complete the GED Practice exercises on pages 126  – 128.  Correct the exercises using the answer key in the back of the book starting on page 261.

 

3.       Internet:

    • Under Internet Activities, open “21:  Geography” and complete the following: 
        1. Read “About This Activity.”
        2. Read “Key Ideas.”
        3. Complete all parts of the “Activity.” (NOTE: Be sure to click on “Save” after you type in each box.)
        4. Complete the “Quiz” and check your answers.
        5. Complete the “Follow Up” activities as needed.
