Lesson 2: Passing the GED Writing Test
Introduction In this lesson, you will learn about multiple-choice and essay
sections of the GED Writing Test. In
Part I, the multiple-choice section, you will apply rules to edit problems
that interfere with clear communication in the following areas:
organization, sentence structure, usage, and mechanics. In Part I, questions have three
formats: correction, revision, and construction shift. In Part II, a topic is given on which you
will write an essay. Objectives When you complete this lesson you will:

Watch Program 2 for an overview of the two parts of the GED Writing
Test. o As you watch,
think about how the two parts of the test are related to each other. 2. Workbook: ·
Read pages 11-12 about “Passing the GED Writing Test”. ·
Complete the Writing Pretest on pages 1- 8. o Evaluate both
Parts 1 and 2 using the answer key and checklist on pages 9-10. o Share your
results with your teacher. ·
Complete the exercises on pages 13-18 about editing. o Evaluate your
answers using the answer key starting on page 353. ·
Read about the essay on pages 19-20.
o Let your teacher know what you want to
improve with your writing! 3. Internet: ·
Log on to your Home Space at http://litlink.ket.org and follow the links
to GED Connection, Language Arts Writing. ·
Under Internet Activities, open “2: Passing the GED Language
Arts Writing Test” and read the page. ·
Under Learning Modules, open “Unit 1: News Writing” and
complete Activities 1-5. (NOTE: Be sure to click on “Save” after you
type in the boxes in each Activity). |
