If you had three or four marks in any of these groups, this indicates that it is probably one of your preferred learning styles. This isn’t to say that you can’t learn in many different ways, but that you may prefer to learn in these styles.  Here are some study tips based on these styles that may be helpful to you.

Speaking

c  Ask yourself questions out loud as you read.

c  Repeat things that you want to remember right after you read them.

c  Use a tape recorder to record information that you want to remember.

c  Discuss topics you are covering in this course with friends and colleagues.

Reading

c  Read all the materials in the course: this course is very text-based, so it should work well with this learning style.

Listening

c  Use a screen reader to “speak” online text to you.

c  Read out loud.

c  Repeat things that you want to remember right after you read them.

c  Use a tape recorder to record information that you want to remember.

Writing

c  “Pencil Read” – keep a pen or pencil in your hand when you read so you can take notes.

c  Underline words and take notes on paper or a computer when you read

Visualizing

c  As you read, imagine what it would look like if you were seeing it in a movie.

Hands-on

c  Make sure you can move around when you are studying.
