Here are some qualities that are important to be a successful
distance learner. Read through these
statements to see if these traits sound like you! |
||
|
1.
You
are self-motivated and set your own goals. 2.
You
thrive on the freedom to work at your own pace. 3.
You
appreciate the satisfaction of completing your work. 4.
You
have good reading comprehension skills and are willing to read much of your
coursework. 5.
You
have good writing skills and can communicate your thoughts this way to
others. 6.
You
can resist constant distractions.
Hectic lives affect many, but keeping this class a priority is
important for you to reach your goals. 7.
You
are willing and able to commit a minimum of six hours per week to this
course. 8.
You
have access to a computer with an internet connection (often available at the
workplace), a television, and a VCR.
In addition to being able to do coursework in the computer lab at
work, some learners prefer the option of working at home. 9.
You
will return workbooks and videos to your teacher (or in some cases your
employer) and/or the Greenfield Public Library. 10.
You
will “speak up” and communicate any difficulties
immediately. Otherwise, your teacher
may not know you need help. We want
to help you succeed. 11.
You
do just as well, if not better, without having someone else immediately
available to help or answer questions. 12.
You
feel okay about missing the social elements of traditional schools. Instead
of classroom discussion, you are willing to communicate with your peers and
teacher through email, internet discussion boards, by phone, or discuss what
you’re learning with friends and/or
coworkers. Remember that online learning is not for everyone and,
while it is an excellent choice for some, others will struggle with learning
independently. If you feel you have
most of the qualities (listed above) of a successful distance education
student, you may find that this online class will be the perfect option for
you. |
