  • These sheets can be printed out and used as quick and dirty assessments of basic math skills (similar to the WRAT - only better!)

Learning Standard: Compute with whole numbers, fractions, decimals & integers using appropriate algorithms and a variety of techniques

Duration: N/A  (some of the exercises can be timed for assessment or competition purposes)

Brief Description (for website index): Math Problem Assessment and Practice Generator

Built in spreadsheet functions allow you to generate an endless supply of alternate versions or forms.

Lesson Objective(s):

Ø      To identify areas of strength and weakness in computing with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions

Ø      To practice solving equations with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, and proportions (equivalent fractions)

 

Lesson Procedure:

  • Hit F9 to generate a new set of problems
  • Print worksheet/assessment with or without answer sheet

 

Materials Needed:

A computer with Microsoft Excel (2000)

A printer

 

Special Comments:

Curious or advanced learners can examine the formulas used to generate random numbers and to calculate correct answers. These formulas can be seen in the formula bars at the top of the spreadsheets.  The spreadsheets are protected, but there is no password so learners or practitioners are free to make changes or additions.  (Hint: make a copy first.)
