Digestive System

 

Function: The digestive system absorbs nutrients and water from food

 

ORGANS

 

1.   Mouth: The first part of the digestive tract it includes saliva, tongue, and teeth  

2.   Esophagus: Passageway for food from the mouth to stomach

3.   Stomach: Uses strong acids to break down food

4.   Small Intestine: Absorbs nutrients into blood stream, then passes the residue to the large intestine

5.   Large Intestine:  Absorbs water and excretes solid waste

  1. Rectum:  Where the digestive system opens to the outside at the anus
