The circulatory system

Circulation of the blood serves to move blood to a site or sites were it can be oxygenated, and where wastes can be disposed. Circulation then brings new oxygen into the blood and the tissues. The process of the circulatory system is to continue life of the cells, tissues, and the organisms.

Two part circulation

The body’s circulation has two parts, with the heart acting as a double pump. Blood from the right side pump is dark red and low oxygen. It travels along the pulmonary arteries to the lungs were it receives fresh supplies of oxygen and becomes bright red. It flows along the pulmonary veins back to the heart’s left side. Blood leaves the left side of the heart and travels through the arteries which divide into capillaries. The blood travels into the veins and into the right side of the heart where it begins all over again.
