One student worked on learning to round decimals using place value. Another worked on

learning the algebraic rules for handling exponents.  Another reviewed fractions and decimals.

Watched video part one of the Spike Lee HBO documentary  "When the Levees Broke". Class

wants to watch part 2 on Thursday.

We almost finished watching the Spike Lee documentary on Katrina and her aftermath in New

Orleans.

We finished watching the 2 DVD video and started some writing based on some process

questions.

There was a lot of discussion about the priorities of the Federal government and the difficulty of

poor people to organize themselves to get what they need.

 

We also discussed the idea of having monthly spelling words in addition to the vocabulary work

we are already doing.

Writing: When the Levees Broke

After going over some common words that end in "ign" (align, sign, resign, design, feign,

foreign, sovereign, etc.) and some common prefixes ("re", "co" etc.) people wrote quietly in

response to the video.
