Worked on 2 worksheets doing a review of contractions. Activity went well and students

seemed to get contractions more easily with the practice.

Group work…crossword puzzle and read a couple articles from newspaper. Discussion and

some writing exercises. Constructed a Venn Diagram comparing soccer in the USA and Mexico.

N-1 Represent and use numbers in a variety of equivalent forms in contextual situations (Number Sense)

Excellent class today! Started working on the math packet fraction section. This was review for

some and new information for others. Everyone worked well even though some of the examples

and word problems were difficult to grasp at first. Students asked for extra practice sheets to

W1.2b Write one word or simple phrase answers to basic questions (Writing Expression)

Did 2 poem writing exercises. One was the Name poem where students write their name down

the side of the paper and come up with words that begin with the letters. It was fun to see them

really thinking of words that began with the various letters. The second poem was one where the

students had to come up with words that describes things they fear, need, want, know about

themselves, siblings names and emotions they feel. This one was harder for them but they all did

it and did a really nice job.

Where and why there is conflict (Conflict & Resolution)

We watched the video, "Shadow of Hate" as part of our venture into the Civil Rights movement

and looking at Black History for the month of February. Lots of questions generated and good

conversations and comments.

Students picked their books for the next book review.
