Started our solar system project.
Used paper mach to create the planets and sun and moons.
2 students started the research for the facts we will need for each
planet.

Class did group writing activities.
Began with dictionary activity. Words
picked at random were:
parallel, microcosm, despise,
mask, literature, residue, lather, inconsiderable, pale, zodiac.
Some very creative sentences and paragraphs/stories were
constructed. Discussed next weeks
activity…everyone will bring a picture and we will write about it. Also discussed doing writing
on specific subjects that people are interested in.

Gave class a worksheet on Roman
Numerals. It consisted of addition and
subtraction problems
using Roman Numerals.
Class wanted to do more individual math work for second half of class.

How cultures affect identity and perspective (Cultures & Identities)
Class worked on independent tasks,
math and reading. We read a couple articles from "News
For You" and had good discussions. Class decided to go to a free
concert at GHS on Friday
November 3. We will go together as a group to dinner and then to the
concert. Tickets are free
and will be picked up at the Recorder newspaper.

Did the crossword puzzle to get
class motivated for our next mini-project.
Looked at 5 major religions (Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhism, Sikh,
Hindu) and their major
holidays . We listed the holidays for each and then looked at how it
would impact school
calendars if all religious holidays were honored as opposed to the
Christian ones that are
celebrated currently. Schools
have to be in session 180 days a year. The major holidays for the
religions would add up to would add up to over 40 days. This would
present a major problem
for schools. We didn't come up with a solution.

packets. Did exercises with prefixes, suffixes and contractions
as well as compound words.

Introduced multiplying by decimals.
Showed class how to find decimal places. They worked in
groups of 2 or 3 and helped one
another with the process. We will proceed with dividing by
decimals on Thursday.
