3 Brief Warm up writing activities:

1. Feelings and thoughts about the systems breakdown on the Gulf Coast after hurricane Katrina

 

2. Civilization: What is it?  What happens when it breaks down?  How did it start? What/Who

keeps it going?

3. To what extent are you getting an education just for yourself?  To what extent are you doing

it to help others?

 

We briefly talked about expectations and then moved on to review what an essay is.

 

People all worked hard on starting and organizing first draft essays during Individual Learning

Writing:

One student was focused on her college course writing. The others got established in the

Moodle: Charboneau Fall Writing Course and evaluated the sample essays based on 15 criteria

for a good five-paragraph essay.  A few finished early and worked on their own writing.

Everybody worked very hard tonight.

Did a math review using crossword puzzles. Class did well with the basic math crossword puzzle

 but was not able to do the one with per cents and averages. Asked for a review session next

week before we attempt the crossword.

Writing:

People were either assessing writing using a fifteen point scale in Moodle or they were working

on their own writing.

One person was doing her college assignments, and one student filled out a voter registration

form because she had just turned 18.

Writing:  People all worked on completing their writing expectations.  Many did a lot of

proof reading with double spaced copies, and some people dealt with Moodle.
