Thursday, January 27, 2005          3 Learners present.                                                       2 hours

  --      Compute with whole numbers, fractions, decimals & integers using appropriate algorithms and a variety

 of techniques (Number Relationships & Computation) 

Mostly Math:

One person worked on percents and then typed up a table of measurement conversions for all learners

 to refer to.

Another learner did a Math assessment and then started working on multiplication with more than one

digit.

Another learner made some "final" revisions on a piece of writing she started last Tuesday.  Then she

started a Master Test on Decimals to see if she needed more practice or if she could skip everything in

 the decimal Units but the word problems.

  --  Learn strategies for organization (Writing)      WRITING - Communicate thoughts, ideas & information in

writing; Create documents (letters, directions, reports, graphs) (Basic Skills)

Writing:

The topic was "Hopes and Fears".

We started with a concept web.  Most people were able to plan out and finish a first draft by hand. 

Some people started typing out their drafts on the computer, and one person started making serious

revisions. 

One learner finished her first draft of a movie review and got a start in typing it up for later revisions.

  --        SELF MANAGEMENT - Accurately assess self, set personal goals, monitor progress & exhibit self

control (Personal Qualities)

One learner wrote a movie review and then started working on parallel structures with the assistance

of a volunteer tutor.

One learner worked on turning her autobiographical vignettes into a book and spent most of the period

learning to download and insert graphics into a word processing document.

One learner did some reading in US History, and then went over some of the major parts of speech

(nouns and verbs)

Another learner did a review of Math before taking the GED tomorrow.
