Read short piece about the
Puritans, who they were and how their religion dictated life in the
colonies. Readings generated some
excellent discussions…religion, treatment of women then and now, who has
power in a society, etc.

Did some reading and map work about
slavery history in the US between 1820 and 1850. Had good
discussions about what they knew about slavery and the pre-civil war
activities to abolish
slavery.Read and discussed a little about Frederick Douglass.

workshop. She led them through various writing activities. Students
were encouraged to share their
writings with the group. This workshop was well received.

Read some information about the
impact of the president's proposed budget cuts and wrote letters to
our federal Senators and Representative.

One person made revisions to a writing project (film review) and then
did World History GED
exercises.
Another person worked on place value and rounding in whole numbers.
One person finished her TABE testing by completing her Math and doing
the whole Reading test.

They were asked to write a few sentences on each of those prompts and
most were able to develop
their initial writing into something more structured and coherent.
Other people worked on writing projects they had started
previously.
One person did TABEs.
