minutes, etc.

       Select & use appropriate methods and tools (computer, paper, calculator, mental) for solving problems (Number Relationships

Continued working on the conversion math problems.  Did addition, subtraction,

multiplication and a few divisions.  Dorothy showed class a couple of shortcuts for

converting numbers more easily.

How individuals and groups interact with and impact systems (Systems)

Did a review of the Revolutionary War and the 13 colonies. We will start  a unit on the Civil

War next week.

 

Each student named one specific goal that they would like to accomplish by the end of

classes in July.

Went over plans for our "Holocaust Timeline" paper quilt. Started the very basic "quilt

square making today. Will work on the timeline and specific writing next week.

Did usual Monday morning activity…crossword puzzle. Read several articles from the

newspaper and discussed them.

Represent and use numbers in a variety of equivalent forms and in order relations (Number Relationships & Computation)

Did a group review of fractions…addition and subtraction of like fractions, multiplication and

 division of fractions, proper, improper and mixed.  Group did well with this activity even

though some had never done fractions before.

      Operation and function of systems (political, economic, cultural) (Systems)

Class worked on Holocaust timeline. Each student  looked up specific events from the

various years of the Holocaust, 1933-1945.

Monday, June 20, 2005 5 Learners present. 2.5 hours

Current events, crossword puzzle, Cause and effect exercise.

Tuesday, June 21, 2005 5 Learners present. 2.5 hours

   Revise work with assistance (Writing)

Did a good deal of work on cause and effect. Class had some real difficulty with the

concepts. Did a review of compare and contrast. Some are still having a problem using the

transition words in compare/contrast examples.

Did several practice exercises with finding and making equal fractions. Reviewed a little of

the multiplication and division of fractions.  Class did pretty well with these exercises

although they did much better with the equal fraction exercises than the review exercises.

    Develop reading Vocabulary (Reading)

     Develop writing vocabulary (Writing)

Class went over a 3 page vocabulary list from the Holocaust readings we have done. They

wrote in definitions for the words they remembered and spent the rest of their time looking

up the words they didn't remember.

Class got the pieces organized for the Holocaust paper quilt. One student created a center

square with the title of the quilt on it, another cut out the dates and specific events, others

clipped asnd glued the squares that we made last week. We will start assembling our quilt
