Some people had some
interest in the presidential primaries and after a brief discussion took
readings on
the candidates' positions
on healthcare. Then people worked on
their writing. Some people started new

by hand.
Another writing topic that

processor document. 90% of the words were verified by the
dictionary. Candace also found a list
of
commonly misspelled words

--How cultures affect
identity and perspective (Cultures & Identities) Express thoughts in writing (Writing)
Why
I left school - and what were the
circumstances.
Lots of writing and
sharing. People had some harrowing stories to tell. Most of the stories included
circumstances that they
could not control, but almost all of the stories also took some personal
responsibility even though
they were all very young at the time. (And some of them are still quite young
in
years.)
People were mostly respectful
of the ground rules and peoples feelings when they were sharing.

--Means and varieties of
civic participation (Power, Authority, & Participation)
Good
discussion about the differences between Democrats and Republicans. Talked a
lot about the
voting process both in the
Primaries and the actual elections. Read "No Child Left Behind Act"
and
discussed it. Students started
talking about their own school experiences.
One learner suggested each
student write their story.
Questions to be addressed: When did you leave school? Under what
circumstances did you
leave? What was going on in your life at the time? What would YOU have needed
to do to stay in school?
What would you have needed from the school, family, etc. to enable you to stay
in school? Discussed the possibility of putting
finished writings on our web site.
