Excellent fraction exercise with
tortillas. After the practice, students
put beans and cheese on them and
ate them! Class then worked independently on various math practice.

Worked on some pre GED questions in
social studies. Class decided that it would be more helpful if
we could use videos and then work in book. They feel they would have a
better context if they could
watch a video first and then use books.

Worked on Name poems. Started answering writing prompt activity
questions. We outlined what we
will be doing for our "autobiography book" using all the
writing activities we are working on. We also
discussed how this will help with writing portfolios.

Read and discussed historical
evolution of sanitation and hygiene from medieval to Renaissance to
modern times. Discussed social and cultural effects plumbing had on
people. Discussed importance of
maintaining good hygiene for ourselves and in consideration of our
peers. Discussed what we will cook
for our Renaissance meal next
Thursday. Chose A Tart For Ember Day( kind of a quiche), Spit
Roasted Meat with Egerdouce Sauce,
Rosy Almond Cream, and Limonia(a spicy lemon chicken).

Did a couple of fun trivia question
activities. Class enjoyed them. Used the monetary conversion chart
to convert Iraqi dinars to US dollars. Class was amazes that the 10,265
dinars we had only was worth
about $70.00 US. Individual math
for last hour.

Crossword Puzzle:
News For You Crossword puzzle and vocabulary building. We were able to look at words with the
same pronunciation but different spellings and meanings.
Examples: soul & sole, and whole & hole
We also used synonyms to try to get the answers.
We didn't quite complete the puzzle but we had lots of good discussions
about current events.
We also read some of the articles in News For You out loud.
We wrote sentences including words that relate to health and sentences
including words that relate to
the law. (The word
"drug" fit into both categories.
We also categorized different types of "drugs")

Good group work today. Read and discussed an article about bees. We
learned about the make up of a
hive, the caste system, the
roles of the various members of a hive. Great discussion about what makes
a successful society using the
bees as an example of a society that works.

Class did a small writing exercise…basically "What I did On My
Summer Vacation" and "One Thing I
want To Accomplish This Cycle." Discussed writings and talked about how we will stay focused on
our goals.
I talked about the importance of REGULAR attendance. We finished class by doing a crossword
puzzle…everyone seemed to enjoy being back.
