run-on sentences. Using the words

learners were assigned the
task of picking a "News For You" article and using those words to
write a
brief summary.

Read
several articles from "News For You". Each article was
accompanied by a variety of writing
exercises. Class really got
into the writing. Much focus has been spent on getting them to write first and
then do the editing later.
Making writing a part of every class has really helped get them used to the
idea
of writing as more than
another chore.
