Judge Dismisses
Lawsuit for Slavery
Reparations". This article tied in
directly with the black history/slavery/underground
railroad unit we have been
working on. Discussed and then wrote about whether students felt reparations
were justified or not. Most
felt sympathetic about the reasons for reparations, but wanted to know where
the money would come from.
Many felt that if there was an award of money, it should not go to the
families but be put into a fund to help blacks with education,
housing, employment, etc.

Started writing project that When completed
will be posted on our website. Writing project: Students chose a person from a
selection of books about Blacks who played a prominent part in the history of
this country. Choices were Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Crispus Attuck and
Martin Luther King Jr. Questions to be answered in writing: What is the name of
the person? When was he/she born? Where was he/she born? What did they do? What
was their role in history? What was the outcome/results of their actions? Is
there anything else you want us to know about them?

unit on Blacks who had an impact on history. Read short biography about
Sojourner Truth.
Read and discussed her
"Ain't I A Woman?" speech. Gave class blank US maps, had them fill in
what
were known as the
"southern slave states", asked
them to draw in at least 4 Underground Railroad
Routes based on the maps
and reading we had done.
