Louise's Morning ABE
class continued the "Writing Your Life" activities along with Maps
and geography concepts. They also
began a new unit focusing
on The Holocaust and World War II.
Joe's Morning pre-GED
class finished the their Protein Synthesis Unit. They also worked through a series of writing activities
focusing on comma structures and word usage
and word parts.
The Evening GED class has
been busy with people intent on developing their writing skills. They are wiling and able to
pursue Math skills
individually and to work together as a group. (The most focused and serious
night class we've seen in a
while!)
Successes
11 Voters!
Four of them voted for the first
time. (As far as we know, all of these
votes were counted.)
Charboneau
(TLP) Birthday Party
Over 50 learners, past learners, and
supporters came for a magnificent stuffed turkey dinner. Louise and her neighbors roasted two
turkeys and several pies and
breads.. Amber mashed about 30 pounds
of potatoes. Janice provided cornbread
and cranberry relish.
There were massive quantities of
squash, cranberry sauce, and desserts.
Marlon prepared 10 pounds of chicken wings. Christine
brought in 2 trays of lasagna and 4
pies.
Kris Nelson, representing The
Literacy Project's administration, was
the gracious Master of Ceremonies.
Janice read a proclamation
issued by the mayor (Thanks
Mary-Jeni!). Lindy spoke eloquently
about the origins and development of the agency. We were also
honored by the presence of Jeri Charboneau who has returned to the
area.
Field
Trip to GCC
Amber brought 3 learners for a tour
of the main campus at GCC. They met with officials from the Admissions office
and the Financial
Aid office

We
played a game using word parts and vocabulary.
I learned that it's really not to[o[ hard to change like from a noun
to
a verb.
[What
helped you learn today?] the dictionary really helped a lot because I got the
definition and it gave me examples of
how to use the words.
We
should try and play this game again.
It's a really good way to learn new things and challenge your brain.
