Successes/Highlights

GCC OPEN HOUSE

This was an all day event where people could choose to sit in on real college classes. We took 3 students (two in

the Morning and one in the Evening) while 2 others got there with their own transportation (and initiative).  Those

who made it in the morning all had to be ready for 8:00 AM with a few arriving early to make an 8:00 AM class. (One

learner basically stayed there all day to sit in on different classes.)

Class Activities

Since this month had only two weeks separated by a two-week break, we thought we'd focus

on making sure everybody was up-to-date with their MAPT testing (or retesting).  But, the

MAPT test is actually extremely easy to administer and takes up very little learning time so

Louise's morning class was able to get a start on another round of book reviews. People in the

GED classes had to really focus to decide what was most important to them. Some of them

chose to focus on completing and documenting Math Units.  A few chose to invest their time

on drafting and doing multiple revisions to finish a Writing Project.  Some chose to start

projects that could be finished for “credit” in May.
