Class Activities
Enrollment and Attendance took an expected
"dip" in December.
Louise's morning class had only 2 regular
attenders although 7 people did attend of the 10 that were enrolled.
Joe's morning class had 5 strong attendees out
of 12 although 15 were enrolled.
The Evening GED class had 3 good attendees out
of 11 with 17 enrolled.
The Bestworks Job Readiness Workshops had 2 good
attenders out of the 5 that were
co-enrolled in core instruction.
(One
learner attended a session even though he did not show up for a regular class).
Successes
Former Learner and Friend of The Literacy Project gains Employment
Recognition
Donald Burke had attended for almost a year with the aspiration of
being successful in college. After much
earnest hard work, he opted
for the world of work and gained employment at Stop & Shop.
Since then he has designated The Literacy Project as his United Way
beneficiary: dedicating a portion of his weekly salary to the
benefit of our learners.
After 16 months of continuous employment, he was recognized as an
outstanding employee with a certificate for excellent customer
service and a permanent notation in his employee recorded. The decision for this award was based on the
frequency with which
customers had gone out of their way to commend his service to
management.
Former Learner and GED Graduate Successful in
College: Gains Recognition at FCAC Annual Meeting
Crystal Cummings was recognized at FCAC's annual meeting. She spoke as a representative of several
FCAC services which helped
her get through the GED process and through her first
semester. Her speech was a triumph of
both organization and delivery.
Crystal is a single mom with a lot of spirit and determination.
Charboneau Christmas Party
Lots of good food (Thanks Louise) music and fun. About 20 people were there all together
(current learners, former learners, staff and
volunteers and friends including the regular contingent of clowns,
wizards, and Santas
