WARE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PLANNING PROJECT
Accomplishments May 2000 - July 2002


Outreach and Education:

~ Brochure and wallet card developed, distributed throughout town, and mailed to all homes
~ Three public service ads developed and printed two times each in local paper
~ Two educational articles in local paper
~ Educational posters/flyers distributed
~ Local cable show and panel produced and aired four times with free advertising in local paper
~ Laminated teacher tip cards on teen dating violence for Ware High School staff distributed at high school orientation day
~ Set of three laminated one page guidelines for Ware professionals: effective interventions with victims, effective interventions with abusers, effective interventions for children who witness violence-distributed to Ware professionals with list of consultants who have agreed to support Ware professionals at no cost
~ Teen CD jacket cover/brochure in progress

Trainings and conferences:

~ Training for Ware Police-domestic violence legal issues
~ Training for Valley Human Services-domestic violence dynamics and interventions
~ Training for Ware public and private schools-children who witness domestic violence and teen dating violence
~ Seminar/training for other Ware professionals-domestic violence interventions
~ Total trained: more than 250 Ware professionals
~ Planning conference held and attended by nearly 70 people in Ware

New Services:
~ Womanshelter/Companeras providing local counseling once a week
~ Womanshelter/Companeras committment to provide healthy relationship group for teens
~ Western Massachusetts Legal Services commitment to provide legal advice monthly in Ware

Service Coordination:

~ Monthly task force meetings promote collaboration between local and county agencies
~ Separate meetings held with specific agencies as needed-sometimes confidential
