In
October, 2003, the evening class decided to participate in an annual school
partnering project known as the International Classroom and School
Virtual Visit Project.
Through this program, adult learners, and young people in elementary and secondary
schools join with a partner school, sometimes in another state, sometimes
in another country for a 5-10 month period. Each school shares with its partner
school pictures and student writing - about themselves, their schools and
their communities. Each partnership also chooses a cultural understanding
theme and a film related to that theme to discuss between the two schools.
Our partnership is with the ESL-2 AM class at the Northampton
Community College Adult Literacy and Workforce Development Program,
located in Bartonsville, PA. The class is taught by Brunilda Peña-Febre.
The two teachers The American Industrial Revolution as our common discussion
theme, and Charlie Chaplin's film "Modern Times" as our
common film.
